Treasures Of Lion City Review
Dazzling prizes, great visuals and cool gameplay. Treasures of Lion City seems to have it all. Will it be enough to draw players to explore its vast caverns and uncover the jackpot that lies within?
- Medium variance with 2500x max win
- Rolling reels system
- Feels rewarding outside of special features
If you had a whole lot of wealth, you would not put it all in one room. You would hide it somewhere difficult to reach.
For example, in the caverns beneath a lake, in the territory you are ruling over! The slot’s theme uses East Asia for partial inspiration.
However, it does so in a tasteful manner. Available special features include rolling reels and the win meter bonus.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
Why do we think the cavern is beneath a lake? Because there is a constant drip of water spilling from the top of the reels.
Pulse 8 Studios and Microgaming make it sound believable too. It looks and sounds great. It will also distract you from the fact there are no other animations on the background!
We do not mind this all that much. It keeps you focused on the playing field instead of having your eyes wander off.
The board consists of five reels and three rows. It also comes with 25 fixed paylines. This means we cannot turn them on or off when we want to.
Wins are granted by finding three or more identical symbols in adjacent positions. Wins must start with the leftmost reel to grant a prize, and must follow an active payline.
Rolling reels are the backbone of this game. After every win, the winning symbols will disappear from the board. This leaves behind empty spaces, which are filled by existing icons.
Meanwhile, brand new symbols appear from the top of the playing field. Because of this, you are able to score multiple winning combinations for the cost of a single spin.
Rolling reels by themselves would have been an excellent addition. However, the developers made them even better by adding the win meter.
The win meter is very simple in how it functions. Every time you score a consecutive win, you progress the meter.
Your first, third, fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh consecutive win will unlock various bonuses. The special features you unlock will turn high-value icons into Wilds, and eventually unlock a 27x multiplier.
The effects of the meter last until no more consecutive wins are possible. At that point, the win meter is reset back to the start.
Where To Play Treasures Of Lion City?
RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The RTP for this release is 94.2%. This is very much below the current industry average of 96%. This is a glaring flaw in Treasures of Lion City that we simply cannot look past.
You can bet between $0.25 and $200 on each spin. This is an excellent spread of bets, which should please casual players and high rollers alike.
As far as the math model goes, the slot offers us a medium variance and a 2500x max win. We feel the top prize fits the volatility quite nicely.
It may not be attractive to dedicated jackpot chasers. However, its medium variance is fantastic for everyone else.
We really wanted to like this game. We loved the respectful tone it approached its East Asian theme with.
It had fun gameplay owing to rolling reels and the win meter. There are no free spins, meaning every spin has a chance of massive wins!
It also has a favourable volatility and a good top prize. The only downside lies in its RTP. It needs to be at least a whole percentage higher to make this release competitive.
Until that changes, Treasures of Lion City’s rating will be 3 out of 5 stars.
