Bar Bar Black Sheep Review
Most of us have heard of the children’s song Baa Baa Black Sheep. That said, it was the last thing we ever expected to see adapted into a online slot!
Microgaming is full of surprises, it seems. Can this game rise above its punny nature, or will it be forgotten in favour of better titles?
- Free Spins
- Random multiplier up to 50x
- Low variance
Every so often, we come across a release with a strange theme. That makes us wish we could be a fly on the wall during the meeting about that decision.
Bar Bar Black Sheep definitely falls into that category. Who came up with it? Who approved it? The world may never know.
That will not stop us from wondering about it, though. Available special features include the bonus multiplier and a free spins round.
Theme, Graphics and Sounds
The slot is set on a large and friendly farm. The sheep have plenty of room to jump around and eat grass. This is an older title, so there are no animation depicting that.
Even the background image is rather simple in design. A few sheep, a barn house, rolling green hills and a blue sky. We will not judge the visuals too harshly. They lost a bit of charm with age, but they still look okay.
You play this game on a five-reel, three-row board with fifteen fixed paylines. That means players cannot turn them on or off at will.
You need three or more identical symbols next to one another to form a win. All winning combinations must follow an active payline and start with the leftmost reel. Otherwise, their cash prize will not be granted.
The multiplier can be won on any spin during normal gameplay. To win it, you need two bar icons on reels one and two.
A black sheep in reel three must join them. This completes the Bar Bar Black Sheep combination.
The special feature is only granted if all three symbols appear in their respective reels and are adjacent to one another.
The three symbols will then change and spin. They will reveal a number that becomes your win multiplier!
Bar Bar Black Sheep Free Spins
Land three, four or five Scatters to win ten, fifteen or twenty free spins. During free spins, all wins are multiplied by 3x.
However, this multiplier does not apply to any wins boosted by the bonus multiplier from before. It is possible to collect three or more Scatters and retrigger the special feature.
Where To Play Bar Bar Black Sheep?
RTP, bet sizes and volatility
The RTP for this release is 95.32%. This is below the current industry average of 96%. Significantly enough that it turned us off from playing Bar Bar Black Sheep.
You can bet between $0.15 and $150 on each spin. Players can change your bet in two ways. They can tweak it directly from the main screen by clicking and picking your bonus.
Alternatively, you can open the settings page and adjust the coin size and coins bet. This is done using sliders, and it honestly felt faster than the first method.
We expected the multiplier to play a more important role in Bar Bar Black Sheep. However, the top prize you can win is only 633x your total stake.
This is expected given the low volatility, but it still feels somewhat underwhelming.
The slot has a few minor flaws that can be justified. The small jackpot and low variance are aimed at a casual audience.
The theme is weird, but it makes it memorable. The special features do not do much to change up gameplay, but they boost your payouts.
If we found this game fun, we would justify its flaws. However, it fails to engage us. The below average RTP does not help matters either.
We rate the title 2 out of 5 stars. Unfortunately, this release is destined to stay the black sheep of Microgaming’s family.
