NHL Expands Current BetMGM and FanDuel Agreements

FanDuel and BetMGM have become the official NHL North American betting partners after inking a new deal with the league.
Both sides will be able to use the league’s official branding and category designations to attract bettors in jurisdictions across the US and Canada.
FanDuel and BetMG will still receive content through official NHL media channels and benefit from the NHL’s event integration across North America. The two operators will pay particular attention to responsible online gambling initiatives.
The expansion of the NHL partnership deals comes after the Canadian province of Ontario launched the legal sports betting market last week. FanDuel and BetMGM have been approved to offer online betting in Ontario.
Single-event wagering on sports was launched in August last year, although only provincial lotteries are allowed to add them to their offerings.
Here’s what Keith Wachtel, Chief Business Officer and Senior VP at the NHL, said about the recent move:
Canada’s new sports betting landscape presents a tremendous opportunity to further fan engagement and continue our progressive approach to the sports gaming industry. BetMGM and FanDuel were our first sports betting partners in the US, and we’re thrilled to expand our partnerships with both of these leaders in the sportsbook and mobile betting marketplace as we begin our transformative entry into this space in Canada and engage our avid Canadian fan base.
The National Hockey League was founded in 1917 and today is one of the major professional leagues on the North American continent. The league consists of 32 teams, seven of them being from Canada.
The league playoff winner is awarded the prestigious Stanley Cup, the oldest sports trophy in North America. In terms of revenue, the league is the fifth-wealthiest sports competition in the world.
