New PointsBet CEO targets the Canadian market
Published: October 1, 2021
PointsBet and its newly-appointed CEO, Scott Vanderwel, are ready to enter the Canadian sports betting arena. The Australian enterprise will expand its global footprint and establish itself as a frontrunner in the freshly regulated market.
Vanderwel thinks that Canada brings fantastic potential and wants to build excellent customer relationships. The former Senior Vice President at Rogers Communications is sure PointsBet is on the road to success.
The company will have tough competitors in other famous brands like DraftKings, Caesars Entertainment and TheScore. However, they expect to be on par with all the leading enterprises.
The team’s experience and knowledge regarding Canadian sports are bound to give them a head start over the other brands. There will certainly be a rat race in the market, but PointsBet comes prepared for it.
The approval of single-game sports betting has allowed Canada to become a large market in the future. Already a leading iGaming force in both Australia and the US, PointsBet has now set its sights on the maple country.
Ontario, the most populous province in Canada, seems to be the most agile when it comes to sports betting. Its government has already established a legal entity called iGaming Ontario to regulate the related operations.
It is expected this market could rake in the gross income of $777m during the first year. The latest predictions indicate Ontario will bring in nearly $1.5bn by 2026, meaning it would become as huge as Pennsylvania.
It is likely the regulations will be different from one province to another. Provincial corporations now run the operations and they will probably introduce their sportsbooks soon. The reports say some of the first provinces to come online will be Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia.
Commenting on the entrance to the Canadian market, Scott Vanderwel stated:
The sports-betting industry has demonstrated how it can entertain consumers, engage sports fans and deliver quality products. And PointsBet has been at the forefront of doing it the right way in markets around the world. We’re going to build a modern, responsible, distinctly Canadian operation, and I can’t wait.
PointsBet is a top-tier iGaming brand from Australia that has also firmly established its presence in the US. Headquartered in Melbourne and Denver, the company has made its way through multiple states.
Unlike most of the operators, PointsBet controls and possesses its technology that they use for their online casinos and is committed to offering in-house quality and innovation.
The fastest-growing operator in the industry, PointsBet has partnered with leading sports associations and franchises, including NFL, NBA and NHL.
