Evolution Gaming accused of illegal activities

Published: November 21, 2021

Evolution Gaming, a world-leading iGaming content operator, has been accused by an unnamed party of running illegal operations. The plaintiff, whose identity remains unknown, has said Evolution runs illegitimate businesses in some jurisdictions under US sanctions.

The law firm representing the complainant, Calcagni & Kanefsky LLP, has sent a letter to DGE. Additionally, Bloomberg News, which has reported on the accusations, has managed to obtain a copy.

Evolution is the most prominent content provider in the industry when it comes to live casinos.

It has expanded its global footprint by providing worldwide support for casino games like roulette and blackjack, including Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The company has remained an industry frontrunner for a long time by developing a rich portfolio of high-quality games.

The US has allowed iGaming and sports betting to flourish in multiple states, issuing numerous licenses in recent years. New Jersey goes the extra mile to secure regulated gaming, pointing out it will sanction any black market operations.

DGE, the competent regulatory body, has refused to comment on the issue. However, the article says private investigators have brought up the evidence. They have allegedly accessed Evolution games from countries under US sanctions, including Syria, Iran and Sudan.

The investigators have reportedly recorded themselves playing prohibited games, using IPs located in countries that forbid online gaming. However, Evolution has instantly dismissed the accusations, underlining it only offers products to licensed operators and accessible markets.

The company has no interest in pursuing illegal operations, for it has dominated all the markets it has entered. It has signed lucrative partnerships with multiple providers and operators, and with the stock value of $33m, it doesn’t need such problems.

Commenting on the accusations, Richard Linton, Evolution Head of Investor Relations, said:

Evolution strictly complies with all applicable laws and regulations. As a supplier, the company has no control over operators’decisions on where to offer products. We have no direct relationship with the underlying player and no involvement in handling of players’ money.
